Looking back at our first season and hunkering down

On 30th November 2024 we closed our first season after a mammoth 116 performances of our show How to Survive the Apocalypse. Thank you so much to all who have made it happen, from our amazing crew, to our loving audiences, to our brilliant funders. Our audiences are giving 5 star reviews across the board:

Various gorgeous visitors from the season including Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Arts and Homelessness International & Museums Association.

“A highly original and moving cultural experience, using seemingly mundane objects to share authentic and moving stories of tough lives. Staff and volunteers are really friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. It's set in an attractive small building full of character, converted sympathetically and surrounded by a beautiful garden. And the free hot drink on arrival was a pleasant surprise.”

“I visited the 'How to Survive the Apocalypse' storytelling performance. The presentation of the objects/place and their meaning was compelling and thought-provoking. So good to visit a living museum that makes you think, smile, and maybe even cry a little. (I was surprised too!) Definitely recommend a visit”

“Best museum experience in years! So moving, intimate and powerful. The MOH uses verbatim based story telling, with performers from the community. In our semi-conscious, screen addicted world, it was an honour to sit and listen to these ambassadors for change.”

Thanks so much to all who have made this summer season magical.

We are moving into our winter season with full hearts and that’s important because winter is always harder for our community. When we planned what the museum's year may look like, we took a strategic decision to hunker down and do community care and direct action during winter. With so many people involved in MoH experiencing different forms of homelessness, struggles and/or living with trauma, this felt like the most appropriate approach to the museum’s programme.

We look after each other in the harder months and open to the public in the warmer, brighter days. This is in direct contrast to contemporary societal expectations to move through winter as if energy levels and environmental conditions remain consistent throughout the year.

Our Winter Season 2024/25 is now live and includes:

Community Tuesdays

Cosy Thursdays

Emergency cold weather gear and provisions

The Breathing Room a space to talk about loss,

Sexual Health Drop ins with CLASH and the Outside Project.

Our special events include Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing day extravaganza with all the trimmings. We are also holding a Festive Dog Show, a sober wassail and a Snowdrop Sunday.

Our Winter programme has been designed by the community to transform the museum into a nurturing, cosy hub where people can access what they need. If you are homeless or experiencing other struggles drop in any Tuesday or Thursday to see us. You are not alone.

Thanks so much to everyone who has donated and left beautiful messages on our Winter Appeal. You are amazing! Unfortunately Just Giving won’t give us any information on the donors unless you give it permission to. So if you haven’t heard from us to thank you personally, that’s why!

If you would like to stay in touch please email adam@museumofhomelessness.org

We promise not to spam you but we do like to invite our donors for events and catch ups with the crew.

THANK YOU WE LOVE YOU
